Reba Gobel was born in Deavertown, Ohio on April 9, 1898, the daughter of John and Emma Gobel. She married George L. Shai and had two children. Larry E. Shai, who passed 5 days after birth on December 11, 1938 and daughter Nancy S. Shai Azbell. The family lived on the Maysville Pike in Zanesville at the time of Reba's death on January 26, 1943 of liver cancer.
