| Favorite School Memory | Because club members of the California Scholastic Federation @ YHS were granted one day per semester to travel on a bus to LA County, we did lots of fun things. We toured both the LA County Museum and Art Museum (One day we watched part of an episode of Ironsides being filmed. It was fun to see Raymond Burr of the old black and white Perry Mason tv series fame walk over to his wheelchair, have his face powdered, then have the scene filmed.), toured the La Brea Tar Pits, the famous Farmer's Market, attended movies in Holleywood, and ate "dinner" at The Brown Derby restaurant (We thought we would get dinner for our $3.50 but only got an appetizer. It was fun because many famous people were known to eat at The Brown Derby. I was not disappointed because I met the star of the original Superman tv series - the actress who played the part of Lois Lane. She gave me her autograph on a drink coaster but when I got back on the bus, I had lost it. I went back inside and go another one from her and she wrote, "Still a pretty dress. Lois Lane"). I have always treasured those CFS excursions which would not have been possible if the school had followed the rules of my children's scho...(read more) |
| About Me | I attended BYU for a couple of years, then began an 11-year carreer of working outside the home. During that time I had an 8-year detour of a bad marriage. I have been blessed immensely because I did complete my goals of temple marriage, having children, and enjoying life. My husband, Don, is Salt Lake City's Chief Plans Examiner and is also extremely active in the Code Change Hearings by submitting changes, attending code change hearings, voting on changes, and sitting on a General Code Change Committee. He grows a gigantic fruit/vegetable garden each year (about 84 pepper and 84 tomato plants plus 23 grape vines, berries, fruit trees, etc.)which feeds many more than our family but which keeps us busy taking care of it all. Because our church is a "lay" church and everyone volunteers their time in serving in callings from our priesthood leaders, I currently am both our Ward Organist and a Stake Organist and play for those meetings. i give organ training when needed at church as well as for individual students who pay for my time in my home. I studied organ with a Salt Lake Tabernacle organist, Roy Darley, and named our first child after him - Royce. Don is our ward Sunday School President. He serves as a home teacher for two families and I as a visiting teacher for three ladies. The gospel of Jesus Christ is more than our religion - it is our way of life. I was organist and choir accompanist for our church stake's Bountiful (UT) Temple dedication. I was the LDS Church's Davis High School Seminary's graduation accompanist for 13 years - which was the largest graduating class seminary in the world having about 500 students each year. I enjoy walking, riding my bicycle, scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing, reading, teaching my piano and organ students, cooking, traveling, attending the temple (any of about 142 operating in the world) and most of all - spending time with my husband. Through the years I have been a board member of the Salt Lake Chapter of American Guild of Organists and Davis Chapter of Utah Music Teachers Association. I am also a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs. I have served as Central Davis County PTA Council Secretary/Treasurer (during which time I wrote a Resource Book and was given an award for the effort). I served on our elementary school's Community Council as a member, President-Elect, and President. My children are: Royce (23 years old and married to Cathy...(read more) |
