| About Me | After college, I taught in private school in San Francisco for 4 years while my husband-to-be was in law school. After we returned to Delaware (my husband’s home state) I taught in a Catholic girls’ high school for 3 years. John and I were married in 1985, and our son, John III, was born in 1987. (He’s 19, 6’ 3”, writes classical music, computer programs, and philosophical commentary, does original mathematical proof, studies Latin, Ancient Greek, Philosophy, and Theology, looks a little like Orlando Bloom with long hair – fences too!, and helps out with the little ones at our school.) I worked on my PhD in Cognition & Instruction from 1992 - 95, finishing everything, including the first chapter of my dissertation, when I started a K – 12, liberty-based, free school in 1995. I left the PhD unfinished because the school was so much more invigorating and valuable! My husband left the law to work at the school too (because according to him, “Nowadays you can’t practice justice, you can only practice law, and who wants to spend all their time making money at the expense of the Truth?”) In addition to the school, I have recently formed another company which redevelops and revitalizes abandoned and infill sites using sustainable design and methods and democratic rather than hierarchical management practices, and integrating organic farming, cultural, educational, and community programs.
