Phil moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1948. He married Norma Lee Pond in 1950 and they had three sons. Phil and Norma Lee "Pinky" were married for 63 years and died within three months of each other, Phil on Februray 19 and Pinky on May 10, 2013. Phil worked for the Arizona Dept of Transportation for more than 20 years and spent his retirement years traveling the world with Pinky's tap dance troupe where he acted as emcee.
