Remembering Poem

Remembering back through the tunnel of time, faces, out of focus, softened by the years.
So many memories, most of them good, of us, of our youth.
Growing up together, facing the unknown. Our first broken hearts shared with one another; first cars, first kisses.
Not much was a secret back then.
Young adults, ready to take on the world.
Good byes said and promises made to stay in touch-
But life moved on and so did we.
Losing touch with those who helped shape us, mold us, into who we have become.
A reunion set in time-
At first, the slight shock as evidence of the passage of years echoes on classmates faces-
But then, as the old days are fondly recalled, the lines of time seem to slip away and there are the faces from our youth once more.
Laughter fills the room and I watch as we reconnect with ease-
“Remember when”? “Do you remember”?
So many conversations starting with these simple words.
The evening winds down and we climb back into our middle-aged skins, smiling as we once again separate into our own lives, happy to have become the Class of ’92 once again.
