About John (Jack) Mascelli, 58, of Murray Street, Forty Fort, died Saturday morning, March 20, 2010, at Hospice Care of the VNA, Wilkes-Barre.

He was born in Kingston, and was the son of Betty Singley Mascelli of Forty Fort and the late Raymond S. Mascelli. He graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1969.

Jack was employed as an EMT by Trans-Med Ambulance Inc., prior to his illness. Previously he was employed by the Luzerne County Transit Authority, he was a Forty Fort police officer and worked for Sheet Metal Local 44.

He had resided in Forty Fort for his entire life and was a member of the Luzerne United Methodist Church.

Jack was a PIAA and ASA umpire. He was a basketball referee at the Kingston Recreational Center and active with Forty Fort baseball for years. He was a member of the Forty Fort Fire Co. and an associate member of American Legion, Swoyersville. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Surviving besides his mother are his wife, Susan Shulo Mascelli, Forty Fort; daughters, Tiffany and her husband, Ben Walck, Clinton, N.J.; and Kimberly Mascelli, Nanticoke; one grandson, Charlie Ray Halchak; and his beloved dog, Sam.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. Carol E. Coleman, officiating. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call Monday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
