When we moved to Campton in 1952 I was in 5th grade. On Thursdays several of the kids in my class would go down the hill to the Methodist church to choir practice after school. The Merrills were pastors and Mrs Merrill was very good with kids and I got to know my classmates better through the times we spent with the pastor's wife in our practices. She treated us with desserts from time to time and was really a blessing to all of us. I remember snowball fights and how all of the girls took a liking to Jimmy Wallace. He had a coat with a fur collar and I and my friends would sneak into the coat room at school and rub our left hand over the fur and not use that hand all day long. He was kind of chubby back then but a real good friend to all of us.
