Russel and I stayed very close friends over the years. I saw him when we both lived in NYC trying to make it in theater and dance but I saw him more often when he moved back to Fayetteville, AK into an old family mansion at the corner of Lafayette and Gregg. He had a bunch of pugs and taught fourth grade. This was all after major careers in the theater and The World Bank in DC. In his 20's he did a commercial in Memphis for a car company where he tap danced around a car, "Super Power Comfort Drive," and later wrote a wonderful book, "An Unkindness of Ravens," about his family. I visited the mansion in Memphis where his grandparents lived. That palace is now an upscale wedding venue and he showed me where some carved initials were hidden. He was at my 1985 wedding and my mother was scandalized when Russel said in my wedding video that I lost my virginity in high school. Sigh... Russell died of an aneurysm when he was 51. We had planned to grow old together.
