About Me | Professional Profile Malcolm ‘Skip’ Bowen, Partner with Performance Consulting, now retired He was one of dthe principal developers of Total Quality Management (TQM) for Pacific Bell from 1988-1991 where he designed, internally consulted, facilitated & trained over 2500 employees in the use and application of TQM Tools and processes. He specifically designed and delivered 3 times/month throughout the state, the Quality Champion’s process and used it to develop the capabilities of 350+ internal change agents. This 3 years plus effort delivered TQM concepts, tools and improvement processes to both the 350+ internals as well as most of the major departments inside Pacific Bell. In the course of his 24 years with Pacific Bell, primarily in operations, he also managed and led large teams in numerous successful process improvement efforts. He specializes in enabling Process Improvement Teams. Over the last 15 years Mal has also developed and tested the Personal Effectiveness Process (A process that enables clients, both personally and professionally, to determine what they really want). This individualized coaching process has been successfully used with over 800+ clients. For the last 15 plus years Mal and his two partners, Gary Schouborg Ph.D. and Toby Simons MA, have been managing Performance Consulting a highly successful Strategic and Tactical Performance Improvement firm headquartered as of now in Dewey, Arizona. Skip also (1992 -- 98) taught Process improvement, Strategic planning, thinking and problem solving courses to graduates and undergraduates at the John F. Kennedy University’s School of Management in Walnut Creek, California. He will also be teaching a Group/Team Facilitation course at the UC Berkeley Extension in the Fall of 2001. His consulting practice includes Baldrige based business improvement assessments, Strategic Planning, Process Improvement and building the skills of improvement teams in facilitation and problem solving skills. Skip and his partners have also published two workbooks that support their teaching and consulting work (The Quality Managing and Planning Tools’ System and The Basic Quality Improvement Tools). HRD Press published both in early 1994. They have also produced Crafting Personal Effectiveness, in both a workbook and software form, which is designed to support their Personal Effectiveness (Coaching) Process.
