| About Me | After graduating from USAFA, went to pilot training --- I still think learnng to fly was/is one of the hardest "things" I've ever done. 7 years active duty in the Air Force flying the C141 around the world (it took me to all the continents & 40 countries) + spent 1 great year at the Pentagon & about 15 years in the AF Reserves to earn retirement pay at age 60 --- I think of & thank all of you at the beginning of each month as I cash the retirement check! 30 years in the airlines (Hughes Airwest, which merged into Republic Airlines, and then became Northwest Airlines, which was purchased by today's Delta Airlines). At Hughes, I met my wife, Audrey --- a flight attendant --- married on 8-1-81 (a date I thought I could remember!) --- she is still flying --- I retired at age 60. We had 4 children (2 of each) --- all had/have become college grads & are now positively contributing citizens of this GREAT country --- for me, INDEED, God Bless the USA!! --- for me, there is no place on earth as wonderful as this AWESOME land! --- go Lee Greenwood!! Since retiring from the airlines, I have pursued my passion ---- baseball! Have coached at the rec, travel, high school & college levels & am currently as assistant coach at a Christian school in Adrian, MI. For me, continuing to participate in "America's game" since college through coaching has been a REAL thrill! ---- today, the guys at Siena Heights U keep me young and allow me to remember & hopefully in some small measure reflect the truly wonderful & inspiring values expressed by not only my WHS baseball coach, Leon Royce (oh, what a GREAT human being whom I still admire so much), but my young <at that time>, energetic, & enthusiastic basketball coach, John Barth, and stoic, philosophic, erudite cross-country coach, Jim Murphy. Words can never express my appreciation to these mentoring individuals for all they taught me about living a life of service to others! Foundationally, I see my time at WHS as truly a VERY significant aspect of my life --- in retrospect, I cherish EVERYTHING about the school (which really means the people with whom I interacted <both students & faculty>) --- all taught me so much!! --- I grew immensely as a person while there! AND THEN, my time at the Air Force Academy was like what I learned at WHS pesonified!! Those 2 instiututions, to me, will remain, I think, forever so indulgently & affectionately in my mind as the places where I entered as a very naive "boy" & left as a young "man" eager to confront the challenges that the world offered --- for sure!! I do so hope/wish/desire that every other student's experiences while at WHS are/were as fulfilling as mine & are viewed as the propulsive step on their journey to effect positively all with whom they come in contact. Thank you profoundly Windsor High School; I shall be indebted to you forever for all that you did for me ...(read more) |
