Terry was my honorary uncle. He lived one street over from my grandparents, and was a good friend of my uncles, Larry and John (Class of 1972). One time when I was 4 or 5, they all tried to convince me that I had to call him Uncle Terry. I insisted, “He’s not my uncle!” They said, “How do you know? He’s always over here.” I said, “Because he’s not Mommy’s brother! He can’t be my uncle if he’s not Mommy’s brother.” Naturally, they found this hilarious. Still, I liked him, and what was a trip to Grandma and Grandpa’s without “Uncle Terry”?Years later, I found him on Facebook. I saw all his adventures in Hawaii and becoming a grandfather himself. He was a good guy. I’m proud to call him Uncle Terry.
