| About Me | Karla Weikel was my maiden name. As a child, I danced with Marie Shaw studios, performing on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, The Ted Mac Amateur Hour in NYC, The Chief Halftown Show in Philadelphia. Tap, jazz, ballet, and ballroom were all fun for me. In high school and college I transferred these skills to cheerleading. I was co-captain of my college squad and was voted Most Valuable Cheerleader in my senior year. In Albuquerque in my 30's I performed choreographed country-western dance routines with a group called the High Desert Dancers. I also performed clogging with the Sandia Mountain Cloggers. After many years of teaching regular education and gifted ed., I became a dance teacher in a public fine arts magnet school (elementary). I taught in partnership with the music teacher in the mornings, integrating dance and music with children's literature, science, social studies and math. In the afternoons I taught dance classes on my own. My partner and I led workshops for other teachers so they can incorporate the kinds of lessons we developed together. I retired from my teaching position in June of 2011. Now I am in partnership with another gal my age to sing at nursing homes and retirement community functions.
