Fred Atkinson '62 said:
Fred and I were married over 58 years. We had two sons and he was a loving, caring and protective father and husband. After college he opened up the first Veterinary Lab in the state of Nevada and owned it for over 23 years. He loved to fish, hike, go camping, travel and hunting. He volunteered for the Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue for several years and was one of their EMTs and was the Vice Commander and for the entire county. He was a member of the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 and was and Exalted Ruler.
He was a volunteered for Boy Scouts of America, as a youth in earned his Eagle Scout and Quarter Master ranks. As an adult leader for approximately forty-four years he was awarded the Silver Beaver. While in Scouting he earned his PHD in Commissioner Science. He was a Scout Master, District Chairman and went on to be the Nevada area Council Chairman and was on the National Board for Scouting.
