Age-65 Tom was known in our class as Tom R. since we had another Thomas Sandersfeld, Tom L. Tom R. was an asset to the choir, enjoyed participating in the WHS theater productions and played basketball. He earned a AAS degree in Water and Environmental Technology. He was a master gardener, great cook and the jolliest Santa in Elkader for years. He was married from 1981-1999 and blessed with two children, daughter Erin and son Tyler. In 2012 Tom married Jerilyn McCarty Fisher and gained two stepchildren, Courtney and Brendan Fisher. Tom was a member and deacon of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports. Tom loved watching Iowa City Regina football and was a loyal Cubs fan, but why did he wear a Brewers cap? He suffered from congestive heart failure and passed July 7, 2018. Tom is survived by wife Jerilyn, children Erin Sandersfeld Nosbisch and Tyler Sandersfeld and Stepdaughter Courtney Fisher Funke. He was preceded in death by his parents Waldemar and Helen(Beer) Sandersfeld of Homestead, brothers John and Chuck, and stepson Brendan Fisher. Tom's saying was "Today is good" and we will remember his goodness as we celebrate 50 years out of WHS, we miss you.
