About Me | My life changed when I left New York. In 1985, I decided to serve a two-year mission for my Church and was sent to Europe, speaking Dutch, to teach the Gospel. Having success there, I was then sent to Arizona among a Native American tribe called the Papago. Other tribes were mixed in like Apache people and others. I helped many overcome difficult circumstances in their lives. Helped married couples, a convicted killer, a drug addict, etc. Then I was placed in a Spanish speaking area. Of course I did not know Spanish, but learned a little with each day. After a month I think, I was transferred to Arizona State University where I taught a Japanese woman through a translator. She had never heard of Jesus Christ before and when she returned to Japan (Nagoya), she accepted Christianity. Well the list goes on, but the important part was that I was helping people improve the quality of their lives. After the mission, I finally set out to complete a college degree. My High School education, even though I was an A/B student, was inadequate for most colleges and universities. I went through SEVEN of them before I finally got a degree in Utah at BYU. Basically, I had to relearn High School in remedial classes and then tackle University level classes. Graduated with a 3.45 GPA. I wrote on-line course-work for BYU for awhile until my second daughter was born. Both my wife and daughter barely survived that birth. I had to step up and give them both priority care for a couple of years and learned to be very understanding of their medical issues. Because my wife was born in Utah, she asked me to please not take her away from her family which I agreed to and we moved to Layton in North Utah to be closer to them. In New York, we were a mix of different peoples with different backgrounds, races, faiths, etc. and Utah is no different no matter what you've heard. The only difference here is instead of the ocean, we've got the Rocky Mountains towering just 6 miles away and the Great Salt Lake about 9 miles in the opposite direction. Here, in Layton, I was approached by a Civilian Employee of the US Air Force who came to my doorstep. She said that a background check of me showed me to have a personality and clean record that were a match to help out the Air Force. (I live less than a mile from an air base and I guess they do background checks of everyone in the area to protect the base.) I was asked to become a day-care provider for abused children of people working on base. Since I was then currently out of work, I agreed. So, for 10+ years, I cared for abused kids and learned that so many children are horribly abused everywhere. Their minds are somewhat broken. Most have reattachment disorders that prevent them from bonding with a parent figure or to friends. Learning from this woman from the Air Force, I learned how to work with these children and had some success helping a couple of them become good members of society. My last one before I retired from that work decided to join the Navy and did so well in Naval Training in the Great Lakes Naval Training Station that she was selected to be one of only two females to be the U.S. President's personal guard in Washington D. C. and she is in her 2nd year in that situation. Since she left, I've dealt with health issues as I'm sure many of us deal with. I'm not employed at present, but I'm getting things ready to begin working again after my last surgery. This time novels and screenplays. My wife is a medical professional in a hospital laboratory currently working help with the COVID-19 problems. My children are grown, but still live with us. Plus w...(read more) |
