About | It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robin Alan Saul, 71, and Connie Cline Saul, 70, of Gainesville, GA, who tragically lost their lives in an automobile accident on Jan. 21, 2025. The son of George and Marie Saul, Robin was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. After graduating from William Fleming High School (1972), he graduated from Hampden-Sydney College (1976) with a double major in Math and Economics. While at H-SC, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a Baker Scholar, graduated summa cum laude, and was Captain of the H-SC baseball team. He then went on to receive his MBA at the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School (1978). Robin enjoyed a long career as a newspaper executive with Landmark Media Enterprises beginning at The Virginia-Pilot in Norfolk, VA (1978) where he became the VP of Production /Operation (1989-1993). He then became the Publisher of the Carrol County Times in Westminster, MD (1993-2004). His career with Landmark culminated with his promotion to President & Publisher of the News & Record in Greensboro, NC (2004-2013). After retiring from the News & Record in 2013, Robin and Connie moved to Toxaway, NC where they lived for 9 years before settling in Gainesville, Ga for the last 3 years. In his retirement, Robin continued to be active in the community, including serving as an Advisory Board Member of Transylvania Endowment (2016-2022) and receiving the Paul Harris Fellow award in the Rotary Club. He remained an avid sports fan, especially passionate about his beloved NY Yankees, along with the UNC Tar Heels basketball program. |
