About Me	If your on my Facebook, your allowed to call me JoBear & if your not then you can call me Jodee(: I am 19 years old, my birthday is December 30th 1993. I am a mother to an angel in heaven who I was going to name Amanda Marie Shands or Michael Anthony Shands, R.I.P August 17th 2011. I am also a mother to the most beautiful little girl born December 06, 2012. Four pounds & fifteen ounces, sixteen inches long, my daughter Kaylie Elizabeth Shands<3 who spent 39 days in the NICU before coming home!!(: My little one has Trisomy 18 also known as Edwards Syndrome. My beautiful little girl has Trisomy 18. As most of you know that comes with more physical and mental issues. So here's a little more detail on my daughters chromosonal abnormality. Kaylie has had: PDA Ligation--PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) ligation is a corrective surgical procedure for children whose ductus arteriosus did not close after birth. The congenital heart defect can lead to congestive heart failure in older children and adults if left untreated. Umbilical Hernia Repair---An umbilical hernia is an outward bulging (protrusion) of the abdominal lining or part of the abdominal organ(s) through the area around the belly button. An umbilical hernia in an infant occurs when the muscle through which blood vessels pass to feed the developing fetus doesn't close completely. A Gastrostomy Tube Surgery-- A tube inserted through the abdomen that delivers nutrition directly to the stomach. It's one of the ways doctors can make sure kids with trouble eating get the fluid and calories they need to grow. She eats Gerber GoodStart Gentle with rice multigrain cereal and 90 MLs over an hour every four hours(: Diagnoses: Full Trisomy 18 also known as Edwards Syndrome (At conception, 23 chromosomes from the father and 23 chromosomes from the mother combine to create a baby with a set of 46 chromosomes in each cell. A trisomy occurs when a baby has three #18 chromosomes instead of the normal two. This is something that happens at conception. And although many parents worry about this, it is important to know that parents have done nothing before or during pregnancy to cause this disorder in their child.) Absent Corpus Callosum (Agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC) is a rare birth defect (congenital disorder) in which there is a complete or partial absence of the corpus callosum. It occurs when the corpus callosum, the band of white matter connecting the two hemispheres in the brain, fails to develop normally, typically during pregnancy. The development of the fibers that would otherwise form the corpus callosum become longitudinally oriented within each hemisphere and form structures called Probst bundles.) GERD--Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), gastric reflux disease, or acid reflux disease is a chronic symptom of mucosal damage caused by stomach acid coming up from the stomach into the esophagus.) Sleep Apnea-- A period of time in which Kaylie stops breathing. Questionable Cystic Fibrosis. Test to be preformed in August of 2013. (Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to make thick, sticky mucus that: clogs the lungs and leads to lung-damaging infections; and blocks the pancreas and stops the body from being able to break down and absorb food. CF does not affect many things. It does not cause mental retardation or learning problems. Cystic fibrosis is a disease passed down through families that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs, digestive tract, and other areas of the body. It is one of the most common chronic lung diseases in children and young adults. It is a life-threatening disorder.) Absent Gag Reflex, poor feeding pattern( even though she loves her bottle Kaylie can not have one at this time because she silently aspirates and does not protect her own lungs) Chronic Lung Diesease-- long term respiration problems Low set ears and short neck, her hands say I love you and two toes on both feet are connected!! Allergies to dog and cat hair. Kaylie is only on two medications at this time Ceterizine for her allergies and Prevacid for her reflux. She has very sensitive skin so nothing scented. Unlike what I was told about children with Trisomy 18. Kaylie does smile, coo and laugh. She rolls on her belly, turns from side to side. Sucks on her fingers, and kicks and waves her arms and legs(: keep positive when you hear bad news! Every baby is different so don't let the web or doctors scare you.(: you never know the future.
