| About Me | I dropped out of the modern world shortly after college and, together with my former wife, went "back to the land for the next 30 years, most of it living on 80 acres in a remote mountain meadow surrounded by old growth fir and redwoods. After decades growing our own food and generating electricity from the sun and a waterwheel, we built another home looking 60 miles down the coast on a bluff 250 feet above the Pacific 300 miles north of San Francisco. After many years earning my keep as an independent journalist and researcher, in 1995 I launched the Mainstream Media Project, a nonprofit public education organization that brings fresh voices and perspectives to the mainstream broadcast media. In 2001, I launched a nationally syndicated radio program, "A World of Possibilities," where I interviewed innovators and pioneers in diverse fields from around the globe. In 2012 I retired from these activities and began enjoying life without schedules or commitments. Now I'm teaching myself to make films focusing on what I call true tales of grit and grace, the ability of individuals and sometimes whole cultures not just to survive but to thrive in the aftermath of misfortune and adversity.
