What is Amir Abdur-Rahim '00: Head Coach known for?

Amir Abdur-Rahim, born on March 18, 1981, is an esteemed American basketball coach who graduated from Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia. Before delving into his illustrious coaching career, it's worth noting his remarkable playing career. After starting at Garden City Community College, he transferred to Southeastern Louisiana, becoming a three-time All-Southland Conference selection and leaving his mark as seventh all-time in career points and second all-time in three-pointers made and steals.

Abdur-Rahim started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Murry State in 2006. He then served at various institutions, including Georgia Tech as director of player development and Texas A&M as an assistant coach, where he made significant contributions to two of the Aggies' Sweet 16 appearances. His journey eventually brought him back to his home state, joining Georgia Bulldogs in 2018.

In 2019, Abdur-Rahim took on the role of head coach at Kennesaw State, marking a turning point in his career and the institution's sports history. By the 2022-23 season, Kennesaw State witnessed its first winning season in Division I program history, emerged ASUN champions, and made its first-ever NCAA Division I tournament appearance - all under Abdur-Rahim's adroit leadership. His remarkable work during this season earned him the 2023 ASUN Coach of the Year and the prestigious Hugh Durham Award.

No sooner than March 2023, Abdur-Rahim was appointed as the head coach of the South Florida Bulls men's basketball team, replacing Brian Gregory.

It is also interesting to note that basketball seems to run in Abdur-Rahim's family. His brother, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, was an NBA player for 13 years and currently presides over the NBA G League.
