The Historic Wheatley/EO Smith Preservation Coalition, consisting of the Phillis Wheatley Metropolitan Alumni and Ex Students Association, the Phillis Wheatley High School Alumni Wall of Fame Committee, and concerned citizens, oppose the unilateral decision to demolish the historic stately structure at 1700 Gregg St. To demolish this structure is to destroy a Fifth Ward landmark with far-reaching historic preservation consequences. This is an appeal to all stakeholders, not just alums: relatives of former and future students, neighbors, those with an appreciation for history and historic preservation, democratic process, fairness, as well as concerned citizens in general. Now is the time to reach out to as many as possible. Thank you for signing our Petition.
