Graduation Year Class of 1976
Date of Passing Apr 29, 2020
About Robert "Shakes" Maki, 63, passed away quietly with family at his side Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Bob was fighting diabetes for a long time, eventually losing the battle from complications of an infection starting in his foot. He had a one of a kind personality and kindness. He will be missed by anyone that has had the pleasure to get to know him. Appearing rough and tough on the outside, you would never meet anybody as kind, helpful and generous - truly a one in a million.

Bob was born in Stambaugh, MI on Jan. 17, 1957 and stayed in the Iron River area his entire life. He graduated from West Iron County Schools in 1976. Most of the time working various jobs for the Township of Iron River.

He grew up loving the outdoors. Every season he had something outside that he liked to do. He would spend as much time as he could camping and fishing in the spring and summer, snowmobiling and ice fishing in the winter and hunting in the fall. He also loved most sports on TV. He rarely missed a Packer game or watching Nascar. He spent many hours with his Mother in the garden, a tradition that continued on throughout most of his life. He was very proud to can his own vegetables and to go berry picking to make his own jelly. Bob was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion. He thought very highly of our Veterans and was proud to be an American.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Walter and Elaine (Michlin) Maki; two sisters, Suzanne and Susan Maki.

Bob is survived by his sister, Ruth Maki of Green Bay and her three children, Mike (Marissa) Maki of Eagle River, Elaine Snyder of Green Bay, Genesis Snyder (Tim Heard) in Mansfield, Illinois. He is further survived by his brother, Don (Zina) Maki of Green Bay and their children, Jasmine Cherney (Brian Harrison), Justin (Jasmine) Folkman and Chev Folkman; many great nephews and nieces that Bob couldn’t wait to spoil any chance he could. He loved spending time with his long-time friend and companion, Donna.

There will be a celebration of life at a future date which will be announced when available. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
