About Me	Married Kellie on August 20th, 2005 and we have a boxer, Lucy; Graduated from East Carolina University numerous times, with degrees in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Health Education and Promotion (I was a career student for a while). Go Pirates. Kellie is a graduate of Carolina's Law School, so I've become something of a Tarheel fan, also; Clinical specialist for Carolina Therapy Services and Legal/Legislative Issues Chair for the NC Occupational Therapy Association. Kellie and I found out around Valentine's Day, 2008 that we were expecting!!! After a pretty uneventful pregnancy so far, we found out around 21 weeks that we would be having a boy! 10 minutes after finding out that we would be having a son, we also found out that he was suffering from a serious birth defect, Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. CDH is a rare birth defect that occurs as a result of an underdeveloped (or completely missing) diaphragm, allowing some or all of the abdominal organs to grow into the chest cavity where the lungs and heart are supposed to be. After days of complete devestation, we were in touch with the awesome CDH dept. at Duke University. Kellie and I made weekly trips to Duke for checkups and Carter was finally born there on 10/7/08. After a great first day of life, Carter started to struggle and had to be placed on ECMO (lung bypass machine) on his fourth day of life and was given a 30% chance of surviving. He was on ECMO for a grueling 18 days and was in the NICU at Duke for 4 months. After countless blood transfusions, ultrasounds, echocardiograms, and xrays, 4 surgeries, 18 days of ECMO, 3 nurseries, and numerous tears and sleepless nights, we finally came home on 1/31/09 with some minor feeding issues.
