Sam Pleasant

Class of 1983

Sam Pleasant was born, February 13, 1965 to Samuel Pleasant Jr and Betty Jean Campbell – Pleasant in a small town in the Delta of Mississippi. He grew up in Waxsaw, MS and attended Rosedale High School in Rosedale, MS where he graduated in May 1983.

Sam’s professional career started with him joining the United States Military. He enlisted into the Army Delayed Entry Program in September 1982 joining active duty military in June 1983 immediately after high school. He served 24 years and one month as a decorated non-commissioned officer, from June 1, 1983 – January 31, 2010. The military issuing and grating Sam a Top Secret Clearance (TSC) allowed him to work in some prestigious position in Military Operations, National Security, US Secret Service, Foreign Services, Government Relations, Logistical Management, and other unclassified operations. Through his service in the Army, he traveled the world and served in a mass capacity to protect our country. He did several major tours to broaden his military career by dedicating to protect and keep our country safe.

During his military career he also served in several capacities to our former-Presidents: former President, Bill Clinton and former President, George W. Bush. In February 2008, Sam transition from military operations to civilian duties to the Federal Government working for our current President, Barack Obama. While serving in the position as the Director of Transportation Management aboard Air Force One, Sam managed over 1,300 U.S. and foreign embassy personnel who provided administrative, technical, and logistical services during 250+ Presidential visits. While serving in the position as the Air Force One Transportation Coordinator, Sam planned and executed over 400 Executive Protection transportation movements in support of the White House Chief of Staff and other White House senior officials worldwide. He deployed to over 80 Presidential trip sites worldwide and coordinated advance logistical, transportation, and security support for the arrival and departure of Presidential planes. He served as the transportation and security subject matter expert. Sam Pleasant has served with great distinction during his tenure with the Agency. Most noteworthy was his superior duty performance during the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks and the President’s historical visits to Iraq. During and following the attack, Sam Pleasant independently led, coordinated, and supervised ground transportation movements for Air Force One and State Department aircrafts. During his military career he was awarded the Non Commission Officer Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Presidential Service Badge & Certificate, Meritorious Service Medal, The Ancient Order of Saint Christopher Medal, The Honorable Order of Saint Martin, and Legion of Medal.

As he continue to move and carry out his current responsibilities, Sam works as Director of Mail Support and Operations Division to serves as principal advisor to the Chief of Operation Services on transportation, courier, and mail security matters to advise the Office of the Chief of Operations Services on methods of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of mail operations and programs that allow the Executive Office of the President to carry out its responsibilities.

Sam serve as lead in developing programs policies, procedures, guidelines, standards and controls that directly impacts and affect OCOS operations as well as all of Executive Office of the President. He participates at the highest level of the decision-making processes of the Executive Office of the President, designing and developing comprehensive, innovative mail operation systems and solutions affecting senior level policy decision-makers. Sam was recently awarded the Director’s Team Award for Distinguished Service.
