Shawn G. Rainbolt

Class of 1996

Pace, Florida – Shawn G. Rainbolt, a Pace resident and science fiction author, published the first of three series of books titled Dear Sun, I Am Real (ISBN 978-0-615-44330-0). The book was edited by Doris M. Kingry, native to Milton, Florida and published by Forever Suns Publishing.

The book flirts with a boy's fascination with the inanimate, computer world and the consequences of such action:

Dana, a ten-year-old boy, is awakened prematurely from a hundred-year sleep to discover he is the only one awake on Galaxy, a ship traveling in hyperspace. He is confronted by a manifested computer program that claims to be human. Dana realizes if he doesn't convince this program that he is the real Dana, he will be forced to remain awake and suffer the effects of growing old before the ship reaches its destination. He enlists help from an unlikely source as an unknown side-effect takes over his mind, and it is his mind that holds the key to saving, not only himself, but hundreds of sleeping crew mates. While he battles elements from the computer world, Dana finds himself questioning his own existence. When Dana learns Earth is no longer interested in their mission, he fights to stay alive. Dana knows if he doesn’t succeed, he will be guilty of unleashing a terror that could find its way back to Earth. What makes matters worse, Dana doubts his abilities to fight the terror because he is the one that created it.

Rainbolt is originally from Waynesville, Missouri and has lived in the Milton, Pace & Pensacola area for over ten years.
