About | Obituary for Scott Sperry May 27, 1952-July 12, 2024 Scott Sperry, a beloved former Media Specialist at Dillon Valley and Silverthorne Elementary Schools, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12th accompanied by his trusted dog Manfred. Born (May 27, 1952) and raised in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Scott moved to Dillon, CO, in 1982 where he became a cherished community member. Scott's career in the Summit School District spanned from August 1982 to June 4, 2007. During his tenure, he left an indelible mark on students and colleagues with his dedication, creativity, and passion for media education. He was instrumental in integrating technology and media into the curriculum, enriching the learning experience for countless young minds. His academic pursuits at the University of Colorado Denver laid the foundation for a career marked by innovation and a deep commitment to education. His influence extended beyond the classroom, as he consistently sought ways to inspire and empower his students. An outdoor enthusiast, Scott loved exploring the natural beauty of Colorado. Whether hiking with his dogs, skiing, playing frisbee golf, or biking, he always found joy and peace in nature. His adventurous spirit was complemented by a profound love for dogs, and he often said that his furry friends brought him unparalleled happiness. Scott's passion for music flourished. He was a talented musician whose melodies brought joy to those around him. He was instrumental in creating special “Performing Arts” days for his schools, arranging for groups to come play, and, back when the county was smaller, helped organize the “Hands Across the Water” Celebration for all the schools to celebrate Earth Day around the lake. He co-wrote the song “Hands Across the Water” and helped other staff take the field trip to the recording studio in Denver for the kids to record it for use on the radio station. For those students who attended Dillon Valley Elementary, they will never forget the song that Scott wrote entitled, “Oh, Dillon Valley.” In 1994, Scott moved from Dillon Valley Elementary to Silverthorne Elementary, where he stayed until his retirement in 2007. During his time at Silverthorne he was known for his enthusiasm around the school library, technology, music, and wolves. He shared his love of wolves by taking four groups of fourth grade students to Yellowstone for a week of outdoor education, 1997-2001. In addition, he played a critical role in the design of the current Silverthorne Elementary building through his knowledge of the performing arts and various media formats. Prior to retiring he wrote a school song “ Silverthorne Elementary” for the elementary school which students sang for him last year in its original format and a Spanish version which students adapted from his recording. Scott's legacy is kindness, dedication, and an unwavering zest for life. He leaves behind a community that mourns his loss deeply and remembers him fondly. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of Scott's life will occur later this summer, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, his friends request donations be made to Summit Lost Pet Rescue, Inc. Scott Sperry’s life was a testament to the power of passion and the impact one individual can have on a community. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten! |
