Events | Joan went home to be with her Father in heaven on Thursday May 15, 2025. She was born on June 12, 1934, to William and Lydia (Scheel) Buss. She grew up in the Watertown area where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Watertown high school. She married Kenneth Steindorf on June 19, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI, celebrating 70 years of marriage last June. Soon after they were married Joan and Ken started their family, having eight children. They raised their children on the family dairy farm near Marshall where they currently reside. Joan enjoyed reading, sewing, baking, gardening, and genealogy. She spent many hours at the library and helped several families get their family history started. Joan's faith in God was so important to her and she led by example and encouraged her family to come to the Lord's house. She started every week with worship on Sunday. She was so generous and kind, always there to help someone in need. Joan loved her family with all her heart and enjoyed the time they would stop in to see her and Ken at the farm. Playing card games with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a favorite time of hers. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Firkus and grandson Keith Hensler. Joan is survived by her husband Kenneth, children Patricia Ramirez, Michael (Bonnie), Daniel, John (Theresa), Kristine (Jarvis) Erickson, Lisa (John) Skalitzky, and James (Jaime). Sister In-laws Shirley Buss and Marliss Steindorf and many nieces & nephews, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Waterloo with Rev. James Adomeit presiding. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Joan will be laid to rest at Washington Cemetery following the service. |
