About (no additional information)
Events Jean Louise (Scheiber) Lea Mesa, AZ - Jean Louise Lea (née Scheiber), 80, lost her 7 1/2 year battle with ovarian cancer Thursday evening, January 30th, 2025, surrounded by family and friends while at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. We are confident that she is free of pain at last and now with the Lord.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Meta Scheiber and her brother Joe Scheiber. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Lea, her son Ralph Goble (Amy), grandchildren Tyler and Hannah (Avery) and great grandchild Wesley. Jean has numerous siblings, some with spouses: Jerry (Nancy), Michael (Deb), Gail Lehmann (Chuck), and youngest brother John, all of whom reside in Watertown, Wisconsin along with more than 35 nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Born in Amarillo, Texas on August 14, 1944, Jean was brought to Watertown, Wisconsin when her father Jerome was discharged from the military at the end of WW2 and they returned to the family environs.

She was a graduate of Watertown High School in 1962 and, at the encouragement of her typing teacher, went on to Spencerian Business College where she learned machine shorthand, launching her career as a freelance court reporter. While working in Milwaukee, court reporting friends convinced her to follow them to opportunities in Phoenix, Arizona.

As a partner in the reporting firm of Lea, Sherman, Bleeker & Habeski, she distinguished herself, frequently placing in national speed contests and winning the coveted Arizona speed contest in 1981.

Jean began to experience the debilitating physical stresses from the profession and bought into a needlework store in Mesa to pursue a less physically demanding hobby. Her entrepreneurial bent resulted in the Attic Needlework store which has earned recent membership, according to some, among the top 10 such stores in the world. Each year Jean has organized several teaching symposia, attracting registrants from around the world. Most recently @ 250 needleworkers attended a symposium here in Chandler and were able to applaud her achievements as she attended briefly in a wheelchair. She is adored and respected by her friends on 5 continents. An extraordinary lady, she will be missed by all.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m., February 22nd at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1270 N. Dobson Road, Chandler, AZ. Wisconsin service to be held at a later date.
