Events | Daniel E. Stilp, 50, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, surrounded by his family and with the Milwaukee Brewers playing in the background. Dan was born on December 29, 1973, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1993. Dan was employed at Fort Glass for 25 years before proudly starting his own locksmith business called "Dan's Door and Lock." Dan was an avid sports fan – whether playing sports, watching sports on multi-tvs, explaining sports to others, coaching kids, or sleeping with Sports Center on in the background – sports was always on his mind! A big fan of fantasy football and fantasy baseball – he commissioned several leagues and was a frequent league champion; his favorite teams were the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers and he loved rooting all Wisconsin teams on in the playoffs and championships. Dan had a joy for collecting blown glass and enjoyed finding cool pieces at local thrift stores and garage sales. Among his favorite pleasures, besides a great all-you-can-eat buffet, was enjoying an ice-cold quart of brown-cap Kwik Trip chocolate milk, a simple delight that brought him great satisfaction. He also appreciated the relaxation and camaraderie that came from hanging out with his friends and family. One of Dan’s proudest achievements in his life was opening his heart and home to become a foster parent, which quickly led to him being a legal guardian. Dan frequently spoke about his kids with his huge smile, often sharing stories of their accomplishments. Watching them grow up and guiding them daily to become who they are today was his mission. Dan is survived by his mother, Linda (Ernst) Rhode; his siblings, John (Stilp) Tomaneng (Jovi), Sheila Salb, Clint Salb (Shawn), and Jerry Salb (Tammy); his kids, Klaudia, Kelvyn, and Khloe; his nieces and nephews, including Abby Salb (Dan’s Goddaughter), Jaden, Britney, Brianna, Heather, and Randi; aunts and uncles (especially Aunt Kay and Uncle Dan), cousins, friends, and his pets, Milo, Remi, and Zeus. A memorial service will be held at Hafemeister Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Chris Ross officiating. Family and friends may gather at Hafemeister Funeral Home from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. The family invites attendees to dress casually for the service, including wearing your favorite Brewers or Packers clothes and hats. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Additionally, all are invited for a celebration of Dan’s life on Saturday, August 17, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Clark Park (Clark St. Pavilion) in Watertown. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful, dedicated and personal medical care Dan received from UW Hospital Madison (specifically the Oncology Team at the UW Carbone Cancer Center including Dr. Josh Lang, Physician’s Assistant Megan Wells, and Nurse Practitioner Chessa Fisher) and Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. Additional heartfelt appreciation to the loving care provided by the entire staff of Rainbow Hospice and his private caregivers. A final thanks to the Jefferson County Cancer Coalition for the support provided last year. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. |
