Petition drive and Facebook group page "Francis X. Sweeney Gymnasium"
We of the graduating class of 1960 in consultation with many other interested students and friends are organizing a deeply felt and highly motivated movement and Petition Drive to get the Town of Waterford to make an exception in its policy and to name the new gymnasium of Waterford High School after our dearly beloved, departed Gym Teacher, Friend, Protector, Mentor, Coach and Hero, Francis X. Sweeney.
We understand that it is the policy of the Board of Education NOT to name any school property after any person. But we ask for an exception in the case of this great man who has been so instrumental in the lives of his students, the sports program which he initiated and the school and town to which he dedicated his life.
A PEOPLE WITHOUT HEROES IS LIKE A TOWN WITHOUT PEOPLE !!!

If you live in the area please make the effort to stop at one of the locations and sign in person--Silva's Package Store, East Lyme Driving Range, Waterford VFW, Picardi's Halftime Lounge (Family Bowl), the little store in Quaker Hill, and I think there is one at Liberty Bank in Quaker Hill.
