I went to school with Susan and had her mother as my kindergarten teacher. I remember Susan as always being very nice and extremely intelligent. I'm sorry to hear she passed. May she rest in peace.

Susan Jane Trimmer Bair Obituary

Susan Trimmer Bair, 73, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 12, 2021 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Susan was born in Summit, New Jersey on December 8, 1948 to Harry and Alice Trimmer. She was an only child. She graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School in Watchung, New Jersey where she met the love of her life, Joel Bair. She went on to graduate from Wittenberg University in 1971 with a degree in Elementary Education. A week later she married Joel. During their 50 year marriage, Sue lived and taught school in Michigan while Joel went to law school at Notre Dame. She moved with Joel to Corpus Christi, Texas while he served in the US Navy JAGC. While in Corpus Christi, Sue and Joel adopted their three children, Noelle, Jonathan, and Katie. In 1987 she graduated from Corpus Christi State University with a masters in education and moved to Michigan.

Sue taught 5th and 2nd graders for several years before adopting her children, after which she was a stay-at-home mom. Sue loved being a mother and later loved being a Nana to her grandchildren. She faithfully played bunco with her neighborhood friends for over 30 years. She loved to talk to anyone, in person and by phone. She served her Lord faithfully as a Ladies Bible Study leader, a small group leader, and “Mama Bair” to countless high school students on sailing trips in the North Channel. She also loved sailing with Joel in the British Virgin Islands. Sue traveled with Joel around the world on many journeys of exploration. Her final joy was to spend time with Joel at their cottage in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Sue was truly a shining light and a testament to the grace of our God to everyone who had the joy of meeting her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and survived by her husband Joel, her children Noelle Bair (Byron) of Middleville, MI, Jonathan Bair (Tammy) of Portland, MI, and Katie Gulliver of Rockford, MI. She is also survived by the grandchildren she adored, Kylie and Ava Gulliver, Rylan and Jace Bair, and many step and foster grandchildren.

A memorial service to remember the glory she shared with all will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Magnify Church in Rockford, MI at 11 am, with visitation at Magnify Church on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 6-8 pm. Her ashes will be interred at a private ceremony in the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Grand Rapids, MI or to Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
