About | John Benjamin Carmichael Age 62, of Bonney Lake, WA, passed away suddenly on June 5th, 2018 while on vacation in Peru. A nearly 40-year resident of the Seattle-Tacoma region, John had retired in May 2018 as a registered nurse with Kaiser Permanente's outpatient surgery center in Tacoma. John served on active duty in the US Marine Corps from 1974 to 1979, where he attained the rank of sergeant. He later served from 1984 to 2000 in the US Air Force Reserve, retiring as a captain. Born January 25, 1956 at Fort Riley, Kansas, John was an Army Brat, who lived all over the US and spent three years in Germany, but his favorite location was Fort Lewis. After returning to the area, he made the most of the Pacific Northwest, SCUBA diving Puget Sound and hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing at Mount Rainier National Park. Travel was a lifelong passion. John was a graduate of Tacoma Community College, with two associate's degrees in general studies and nursing. Admired and loved by many, John was known for his kindness and devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Shirley Carmichael; two daughters, Ellyn Clee (Jason) and Ariel Carmichael (Brian); two stepsons, Chris and Anthony Ianuzzi, step daughter Cori Ianuzzi; daughter-in-law Tammy Dineen (John); three grandchildren, Courtney Volk (Jason), Joel Gray (Caitlin), and Jana Clee; and two great-grandchildren, Haley Gray and Kendall Gray; also survived by his mother Dorothy Carmichael and three sisters, Sue Hatchell (Mark), Mary Thompson (Jim), and Laura Bozeman (Mike). He was predeceased by his father Boyd Carmichael, and grandchild Mary Ianuzzi. A celebration of life was held on June 30, 2018 at the Tehaleh Lodge in Bonney Lake, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Tacoma Community College. |
