Arlington Works! AmeriCorps in Arlington, Virginia seeks a team of 7 full-time AmeriCorps members for the 2012-2013 program year (One year beginning on or about September 1, 2012). We are looking for team members who are passionate about serving immigrant adults, youth, and children as well as supporting the project’s goals of delivering high-quality programs to develop students’ English, Spanish, technology, employment, leadership, and civic skills.

SUMMARY OF SERVICE POSITIONS

CORE SERVICE AREAS (See below for detailed core service descriptions)

*ESOL INSTRUCTOR (3 positions): Teach ESOL classes to adults.
*PARENT & ESOL INSTRUCTOR (1 position): Teaches ESOL and leadership classes to adults.
*SPANISH & CULTURE INSTRUCTOR (1 position): Teaches Spanish and culture classes to immigrant children and youth.
*EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAM (ELP) COORDINATOR (1 position): Coordinates the ELP and engages youth, mentors, and community volunteers in leadership and service.
*EMPLOYMENT SERVICES INSTRUCTOR (1 position): Supports job seekers and teaches employment skills.

All Arlington Works! team members also work collaboratively to:

*Provide language, leadership, and technology instruction
*Provide employment services, e.g. assist with job searches & job fairs and conduct workshops
*Plan and coordinate National Service Days and other service events
*Engage the immigrant community and other community members in civic participation activities
*Participate in meetings, training, professional development, reporting and evaluation activities
*Promote Arlington Works! and AmeriCorps, including social media and website updates
*Recruit participants and community volunteers for all Arlington Works! components
*Enhance and expand programming, resources, and program capacity

TRAINING AND ORIENTATION

AmeriCorps members receive training and orientation to AmeriCorps, the immigrant population in Arlington, and Arlington Works! programs and service expectations, including prohibited activities. Training includes class observations, cross-cultural communication, working with the foreign-born population, promoting civic participation, leadership development, and recruiting/supporting volunteers. Some cross-training on all service positions is provided. Members also receive training specific to their core service area, e.g. teaching ESOL or Spanish, working with youth.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY

*Available full-time (1700 hours; ca. 35 hours/week) from on or about September 1, 2012 to on or about September 2013
*Able to serve a flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays
*U.S. Citizen or permanent resident alien
*Bachelor’s degree
*Strong interest in the immigrant community, teaching, leadership development, and service
*Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
*Spanish fluency required for some positions (desirable for all positions)
*Some experience teaching and working with the foreign-born (desirable)
*Comfortable with Microsoft applications, social networking, and web development
*Access to a car (desirable)
