Deacon Henry Jefferson Parker Jr., age 62, passed away peacefully Friday, April 9, 2021 at his home in Atlanta, Georgia.

He was born on June 27, 1958 in Nashville, Tennessee to Deacon Henry J. Parker Sr. and Frances A. Parker. In 1963, the family relocated to Kansas City, Kansas.

He was affectionately known to his friends and family as “Jeff”. Jeff was a graduate of Washington High School, in Kansas City, Kansas where he played basketball. Upon graduating, he aspired to be an educator, following in the footsteps of his parents. He received a scholarship in basketball and attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from TSU, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Criminal Justice with a Minor in Sociology and Psychology. Jeff returned to Kansas City, where he taught school for several years.

In 1986, he married the love of his life, Tenita Williams. From this love union of 35 years, three children were born, Henry J. III aka “H.J.”, Alexander H., and Jessica Parker.

Jeff was always great with youth which landed him a job as Urban Director of Boy Scouts of America in Kansas. Because of his excellent leadership, in 1996 he obtained the position of Urban Director of Boy Scouts of America in Cleveland, Ohio. He was honored by the Mayor of Cleveland and was pictured on the cover of Cleveland's magazine for his outstanding leadership.

Seeking warmer weather, the family packed up in 2008 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. After several years, he decided to return to education and landed a job with the Fulton County, Georgia Board of Education. There he taught school and was Assistant Varsity Coach at Johns Creek High School for the 2010-2011 season. Coach Parker was formerly coaching at Webb Bridge Middle School in Alpharetta, Georgia, where he coached the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams. The 8th grade team went undefeated. In Cleveland, he coached a 10th grade team and a varsity Christian team to a championship season. In Kansas, he coached a 9th grade team and was the assistant varsity coach. Coach Parker had been playing basketball since the first grade and had attended more than 50 basketball camps around the country. Jeff favorites pastimes were golfing; grilling and he also prided himself in athleticism skills.

Jeff was forced to leave his educational and coaching career when his health took a downhill turn. He became a candidate of a Kidney transplant and was blessed to have his son H.J., unselfishly donated his kidney to his father. Although he had a few health issues, he refused to sit idle. He later worked part time for a security company for many years.

Jeff was baptized and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour at an early age. As a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church along with his parents in Kansas, Jeff became a Deacon under the leadership of his father, who was Chairman of the Deacon Board. Upon relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, he joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Deacon Board. Once he was settled in Atlanta, he attended Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Jeff was preceded in death by his loving parents, Henry J. Parker Sr. and Frances A. Parker, his paternal and maternal grandparents.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and caring his wife, Tenita Parker; sons, Henry J. Parker III aka “H.J.”, and Alexander H. Parker (Jas'mere); daughter, Jessica Parker all of Atlanta; grandson, August H. Parker; granddaughters, Kyrah McBride and Khloe McBride; special cousins Joe Christmon, Sherry McCrary; special friend that’s like a sister Elizabeth Robinson; special friend, Charles Robinson; and a host of other family members and many treasured friends.
