Richard passed away on August 30, 1982 at age 45 from a massive heart attack. After graduation he served in the Navy from 1955 to 1958. He was an Engineering Technician for the City of Fremont from 1958 to 1980 when he had his first heart attack. He then completed college and was a Planning Commishioner for the City of Fremont at the time of his passing. He was married for 16 years to Shirley Barksdale, class of 1960. He leaves a daughter, Debra, age 12, who later attended Washington in her freshman year.
