Richard King of Glendora, California, passed away on February 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and deep community roots. A familiar and steady presence in Glendora for decades, Richard was known as a friend to all — someone who showed up, supported others, and made people feel welcome wherever he went.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice King, who passed away in October 2024, and his parents, Bob and Frieda King. Richard and Jan's marriage was the foundation of their family, and the love they shared continues through the generations they built together.
He is survived by his three daughters: Kimberli Healy (Greg) of Glendora; Kelli Winters (Tim) of Glendora; and Erin King (Eric Mruz) of Prior Lake, Minnesota. He was a proud Papaw to six grandchildren — Nikolas Winters (Kendra), Brianna Winters, Cortney Winters, Andrew Healy, Ryan Healy, and Owen King-Mruz — and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of his first great-granddaughter.
For more than four decades, Richard was a constant in the sports stands, faithfully attending Glendora basketball and football games since 1985, following alumni as they branched out to other regional schools like Centennial. Supporting youth athletics and cheering on his community was something that gave him great joy and he rarely missed a game; his presence became part of the tradition.
He had a lifelong love of the water. Water skiing, boating, fishing, and spending time at the river brought him great happiness. Whether skiing across Lake Tulloch in younger days, casting a line in the eastern Sierras, or simply gathering with friends and family by the water, those were the moments he treasured most.
Richard was a devoted and supportive father who stood by his daughters through every season of life. In later years, as he battled the pains of getting older, he leaned on the very family he had always supported, accepting their help with grace and trust — a reflection of the deep bonds he nurtured throughout his life.
Always able to find a friend in anyone, his kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to family and community will be deeply missed. Richard’s legacy lives on in his daughters, grandchildren, great-granddaughter on the way, and the many friends whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, his daughters are asking that you take on a trait of their Dad… be kind to people, talk to everyone- and make a new friend wherever you go!
