Roderick "Roddy" Wright
Class of 1970
Senator Roderick D. Wright was elected to the California State Senate in 2008, representing the 25th District, which includes South Los Angeles, Compton, Inglewood, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Long Beach and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. He is Chairman of the Governmental Organization Committee, which oversees horseracing, public gaming, the National Guard, alcoholic beverages, and management of public safety emergencies and disaster response.
Senator Wright represented the 48th Assembly District in the California State Assembly from 1996 until 2002, where he chaired the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce and the Legislative Black Caucus. He is an energy expert, avid reader, jazz aficionado and collects classic movie posters.
Senator Wright graduated from Pepperdine University where he was student body president. He majored in Urban Studies/City Planning, specializing in affordable housing and developed properties in south Los Angeles.
He graduated from Washington High School and received numerous scholarship offers in track and football.
Senator Wright is a home and business owner in the City of Inglewood and a member of Ward AME Church in Los Angeles. He has two daughters Raki and McKenzie and two grand-daughters, Madison and Gabriella.
