What is Arsenio Hall known for?

Born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 12, 1956, Arsenio Hall is an American comedian, actor, and talk show host best known for his work on The Arsenio Hall Show. As a graduate of Warrensville Heights High School, Hall's career stretches over several decades, with significant contributions to both television and film.

Having initially hosted 'The Arsenio Hall Show' from 1989 to 1994, Hall reprised his role from 2013 to 2014, with the show gaining tremendous popularity. The show also introduced a unique audience interaction, with Hall's fans adopting the "Woof, woof, woof!" chant and fist-pumping gesture, which became synonymous with Hall's show and later became a popular culture stamp of approval.

Apart from his successful stint as a talk show host, Hall has appeared in an array of films and TV series. He starred in the popular comedy film 'Coming to America' alongside Eddie Murphy in 1988 and its sequel 'Coming 2 America' in 2021. Hall also featured in Martial Law and Harlem Nights and was the host of 'Star Search'. In 2012, Hall won NBC's reality-competition game show Celebrity Apprentice 5, demonstrating his versatility in the entertainment industry. Moreover, during the early years of his career, Hall was an announcer/sidekick for Alan Thicke on the talk show 'Thicke of the Night'.

In his personal life, Hall was born to parents Fred and Annie Hall. His father was a Baptist minister. As a child, Hall showed a flair for entertainment even then, performing as a magician. After graduating from Warrensville Heights High School in 1973, Hall attended both Ohio University and Kent State University before embarking on his journey in the entertainment industry.
