John Briscoe
Class of 1958
Army, 3 Years
In May 1960 I enlisted in the Army with basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood then from July 1960 to March 1961 I was at Ft. Monmouth in New Jersey for advanced electronic training (if I told you what I did, I would have to kill you). While I was there I was a member of the Drum & Bugle Corps which had a strong history competing with other D&Bs in a very strong D&B area.
In April 1961 I married my lovely wife Mary Ann and immediately left for the 17th Signal Battalion at Neureut Kaserne in Karlsruhe Germany. Our job was to provide field communications for NATO Headquarters in the event of war with the Soviet Union. I arrived there shortly before The Berlin Wall was built.
In 1962 Mary Ann joined me in Germany and in January of 1963 gave birth to our son Cimarron in Heidelberg.
