NILES — Richard J. Koehn, 72, of Niles, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House in Poland.

Dick was born April 11, 1948, in Canton, the son of Robert and Edna Corriveau Koehn.

He was a 1966 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Youngstown State University for two years. Richard retired in 1999, after 31 years of service, from Packard Electric, where he worked as a foreman and battery lineman. He worked part time for the last eight years at Atom-Matic Refrigeration in Niles.

Dick was of the Catholic faith, a member and past commander of the American Legion in Girard, a member of the Army-Navy in Niles and a member of the Vienna VFW, Girard Eagles and Girard IFH. He was a past member of the McDonald Fire Department. He also was a Marine Corps veteran, having served as a jet mechanic.

Dick enjoyed golfing, bowling and reading. He had a great sense of humor and a big heart. He loved spending time with his family and was a lover of all animals, especially his beloved Shih-Tzu, Mugsy. He always had a pocketful of dog treats for any dog he came across and fed all the neighbor cats.

He will be deeply missed by his mother, Edna of Boca Raton, Fla.; his wife, Rita Marino Koehn, whom he married Aug. 16, 1969; a son, Jeff Koehn and his fiancee, Amy Higgins of Mantua; a daughter, Dawn (David) Slusher of Liberty; three brothers, Robert Koehn Jr. of Champion, Joseph (Denise) Koehn of Salisbury, N.C., and Ted (Sandra) Koehn of Gainesville, Fla.; three sisters, Robyn Taiclet of Streetsboro, Candace Quinn of Boca Raton, Fla., and Kathy Crouch of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Emily Koehn, Hannah Koehn, Colin Koehn and Dimera Slusher; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Edward Koehn.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice House of Poland for kindness and compassion during his final days and ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Friends may call Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, from 11 a.m. to noon at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Due to the current health situation, social-distancing measures are expected to be observed, and friends coming to pay respects to the family are kindly asked to depart the funeral home after doing so. Facial coverings are also mandatory.

Funeral services are private.
