About Douglas R. Bolen, 61 of Warren, passed away October 12, 2008 at 4:37am at St. Joseph Health Center. Doug was born on March 29, 1947 in Wakefield, Michigan, the son of the late Clifford R. and Anna L. (Anderson) Bolen. Doug graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1965 where he was part of the Civil Air Patrol. He went on to serve our country in the Marine Corps having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Once out of the Marine Corps, Doug continued to serve having worked for Warren City Police Department for 30 years where he retired in 1999 at the rank of Sergeant. Doug was one of the first members of the SWAT team for Warren Police. After retiring from Warren Police Department, he was employed with the Trumbull county Sheriffs Office as court security for the 11th District Court of Appeals. Doug was the current commander of the VFW Post 1090 in Warren and a member of Cortland Masonic Lodge #529. He was an avid Steelers, Yankees and NASCAR fan; he enjoyed bocce, hunting, and fishing. Doug was very active with charity events especially Toys-for-Tots. He was past president of the Blue Knights Chapter 14. Doug will be remembered for his dedication law enforcement, military, and serving his country. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, the former Kathie (Daniels) Bolen whom he married on September 25, 1981. His two children; Gidgette (Todd) Owen of Huntsburg, Ohio, and Doug Bolen of Warren; Godchildren Mary Dixon, Samantha Bell, and Joseph Bell. His siblings Marlene Delick and Gretchen Cottingham, both of Wakefield, Michigan, Bruce (Martha) Bolen of Niles; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Gunner. For all who knew Doug, he will be greatly loved and missed. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Donald Bolen; and two sisters Shirley Johnson and Audreen Bolen. Funeral Services will be held on Friday October 17, 2008 at 11am at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Family will be receiving friends on Thursday from 4-7pm where the F.O.P., Masonic Lodge #529 and VFW Post 1090 will hold services starting at 7pm. Burial will be at Pine Knoll Cemetery in Warren Township. The family has asked that material contributions be made in Doug's memory to either the VFW Post 1090 in Warren to help with Toys- for-Tots or to Animal Welfare League
