Class of 1982
Army, 8 Years
I enlisted for 4 years in the U.S. Army (1982-1986) and for 4 with the U.S. Navy (1989-1993). Ft. Benning, Georgia from 6-82 to 9-82 (13 weeks of Infantry Basic and A.I.T. Training / C-8-2). Neu-Ulm Germany was my next duty station (1 / 81st Field Artillery), from 10-82 to 10-84. I was in charge of a 6-7 soldier, 12 hour rotation security detail, on a Pershing Missile Site (NATO), deep within the German Forestry. We rotated to the site, pretty much every two weeks. I was awarded the Army Achievement Medal from my superiors, for my standards of performance. My next orders sent me back stateside, to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky (101st Airborne / C-Company, 1/502nd Infantry). I served there from 10-84 to 6-86. I earned my Air Assault Wings and my Jungle Warfare Patch (Panama-twice), while stationed there. I enlisted in the Navy and went through OSVET Training (Orlando, Fl.) and Radioman “A” School (San Diego, Ca.), from 11-89 to 5-90. My orders from San Diego, sent me to Yokosuka Japan and onboard the forward deployed, Guided Missile Cruiser, USS BUNKER HILL (CG-52). I served on there from 5-90 to 11-93. We (BKH CREW) were deployed to Operation Desert Shield / Storm, shortly after I arrived on the ship. My first 4-5 times underway, were to South Korea. Here are the other ports / places that I can recall, that I was blessed to see (some several times). Different ports in Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Hawaii, Russia and for 12 days straight and below the equator, Australia!
