Date of Passing Jul 24, 2023
About Elaine Kay Barnes, known to all as Lainee, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023, while in hospice care at home in Hawley, Pennsylvania. She was 70 years old. Born on December 13, 1952, and raised in Hawley, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Howells. In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her brother, David Howells.
Elaine was a kind and giving person. She was a devoted mother and wife, known for her nurturing and caring spirit. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 50 years, Randy Barnes, and her daughters, Leigh and Lindsay. She is also survived by her sisters, Becky and B.J., as well as many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition to her immediate family, Elaine's beloved pets, Buzi and Chopin, were by her side in her final moments.
Elaine graduated from Wallenpaupack High School in 1971. She furthered her education at Schnecksville Technical College, earning an associate degree in physical therapy in 1973. Alongside Randy, she worked for over 40 years in various roles at Woodloch Pines. She made many lasting connections with both guests and colleagues, who would affectionately call her "Mom."
In her free time, Lainee enjoyed many hobbies. She was an avid seamstress and quilter, finding joy in creating and gifting beautiful pieces. Gardening and yard work allowed her to connect with nature, and she took pleasure in cooking meals and baking delicious treats for her loved ones. If you spent any time with her, you knew about her quick-witted sense of humor and wide range of musical tastes. Elaine also loved traveling, especially to visit her extended family in Lake Placid, NY; Port St. John, FL; and Poland.
There will be a Celebration of Lainee's Life held from 10 AM to 1 PM and 4 to 7 PM on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, PA 18428.
If anyone has been gifted one of Lainee's handmade quilts, her family asks that you bring it to her Celebration of Life to be displayed. In addition, please think of a favorite memory or story about Lainee and write it in the Remembrance Book which will be just inside the entrance of the funeral chapel.
In her memory, the family suggests contributions to the following organizations: the Hawley Library (https://www.hawleylibrary.org/), Dessin Animal Shelter (https://dessinshelters.com/), or BK Hope Cures (https://www.bkhopecures.org/). These causes held special meaning for her.
Lainee will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and friend. She will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
