About	With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nancy Lee Smith, of Thurmont, Maryland. Nancy passed at Johns Hopkins Hospital surrounded by loved ones on April 5th, 2025, at the age of 80. She was born in Frederick, Maryland, to Elva Mae Priebe and Sylvan Augustus Priebe on July 24th, 1944. Nancy lived a life marked by dedication to her work, her faith, and those around her. She spent the majority of her career at Walkersville Eyecare, where she contributed her time and talents with care and professionalism, working as an optometric technician. Her presence there left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike, many of whom became friends. Faith and community played an important role in Nancy's life. She was a committed member of both Mt. Pleasant Church of God and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and found strength through worship. Her commitment to her spiritual life was a source of comfort and guidance throughout the years. Nancy enjoyed spending time volunteering at the Thurmont Food Bank and Thurmont Lions Club. Nancy was a loving mother, grandmother, "Anan", aunt, sister, and friend. All who came into her life loved her deeply and continue to attest to what a caring woman she was. Nancy was preceded in death by her son Scott Smith, her best friend Mary Flickinger, and her beloved cat Coral. She is remembered with affection by her son Frank Smith; her niece Linda Shoemaker; and her grandchildren: Christian Masser, LeighAnn Shoemaker, and Noah Shoemaker. She is also survived by her late best friend's family, who she took in as her own: Sam and Molly Smith; and grandchildren, Samuel and Mary Beth Smith. May Nancy Smith's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A service for Nancy will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at a later date.
