About Me | After college in Laramie, Wyoming, I moved near Washington, DC and after NOT finding a job in biology I moved to Las Vegas for a few years until my mom became terminal with cancer. I moved back there for two and 1/2 years where I worked as a home health pharmacy technician. I was transferred in my job back to Vegas, where I worked again in pharmacy, but this time in retail and compounding. In November 2001 I married Jon Green, and he is a wonderful husband and father!!! He is a construction electrician with the union. We have 2 beautiful children, Lilyann Aylwyn and Marcus Augustus. They have been a real joy to us and to our families, especially their grandparents (RIP), CW Theis (my dad, passed July 2, 2012), Granny (Jon's grandmother, passed 19 September, 2012) and Sandie Green (Jon’s mom, passed July 23, 2010). Lily is now in 4th grade and Marcus is in 3rd (school year 2012-13). They both love school and especially reading. They enjoy their scooters and are FINALLY getting brave enough to ride their bikes (that they've each had for several years). They love playing outside with the neighbor boys as well. I have been very blessed with my life, except for my health... I had surgery in the summer of 2003 (when Lily was 3 months old) to relieve the pain caused by arthritis that was pinching the nerve in my lower back. Recovery was longer than anticipated and several months of physical and pain therapy were necessary due to a failed surgery and a nicked sciatic nerve. Then when our son was three months old he stopped growing. Literally just stopped. His health just fell off the growth chart and didn't budge. At nine months he was sent to a specialist and diagnosed with GHD (growth hormone disorder). By 13 months he finally began therapy- a shot of growth hormone every night- just what he needs for proper growth. By 15 months he was back on the growth chart and back to normal. His health now is perfectly normal! However, while all that was going on, I was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis). I ended up having about over 5 exacerbations/relapses in the next few years, each leaving me with some disability and I gained over 60 pounds due to steroids. :( By April of 2009, I the steroids stopped working and they had wrecked all my veins. The next month I was finally approved for IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulins), which is like having someone else's immune system infused into me. It makes me sick for a few weeks, but then I feel pretty good for a few months. So now I get it every 3 months via a porta-cath inserted in my chest. I also have an implanted infusion pump that delivers baclofen (an anti-spasticity medication) directly into my spinal fluid. That has helped me tremendously- before I had it my muscles were so spastic that I couldn't even stand up straight or do much of anything standing for more than 20 minutes. Now I can stand/walk for about 40 minutes as long as I don't have to go very fast. That and fatigue are my biggest enemies. I have/am not been able to do all the things I wanted to do with my kids, but I try to make the best of it. I know all things happen for a reason - even crappy health. Jon's been really great through all of it and has taken care of the kids and me and has even learned to cook (mostly). :) I did just have some good health happen - MILD (something lumbar diskectomy). It is a relatively new procedure that uses a long needle and sucks the center of the slipped/bulging disk up and in. I had it on my lower back with about 90% recovery of pain. I wish it could be used for the 2 slipped disks in my neck but it's not FDA approved for that (yet). Update - I had a spinal fusion in my neck to remove the severely ruptured disk on 10-11-12. I've had MIRACULOUS healing that was almost immediate! See my posts from that time! Praise the LORD! I don't mean to dote on our medical hurdles- I hope you don’t think that life here is all problems – it is a wonderful thing to watch our family grow, day by day. I consider each day to be a miracle! We currently belong to a Baptist church, but at my previous church, I was ordained as a minister (Free Church of Antioch, Malabar Rite) in October of 2007. I felt called by the Holy Spirit to minister in the children's cancer ward someday- not only to the children but also to the families as well. I want to learn more about counseling and such first. I also want to wait until my kids are a little farther along in school. The Bible states that we are all ministers of the Good News, so I can hopefully still pursue that calling some day! I am also actively involved in DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), as I have been since I was a child in CAR (Children of the AR). I really enjoy teaching the public and members about the Constitution. I am currently working on the Constitution Week Committee (September 17-23 every year). I really enjoy working and participating in it. Recently (4-13-2011) I became a Born Again Christian in part due to my study of the book of Isaiah with BSF (Bible Study Fellowship). My turning point was when I got to the part about the suffering servant and what He would have to suffer through (Is 53) including the mocking, spitting, pulling of the beard and the stripes He would endure with a face set "like flint". In 2011, I took my kids to two different VBS's and they were also both saved. Then as a family all three of us were Baptized by immersion on October 2nd 2011 at our new church home, Foothills Baptist Church. Hallelujah!!! Praises be to God above! I think that is all for now... I know there is so much more to say, but you might fall a...(read more) |
