Kelly was killed in an auto accident while traveling to Iowa City to celebrate her husband, Todd's birthday. Also killed was her brother-in-law, Troy Liddell.
A joint funeral service for Kelly and Troy was held on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Parkview Church in Iowa City. Kelly's husband, Todd and Troy's wife, Marty Liddell, had both been released from the hospital a few days before the service from the injuries they sustained in the accident.
