Proposed - W.W. Samuell Early College High School - Eastfield
I am a current administrator at Samuell High School, a 2000 graduate of Bryan Adams H.S. and someone who cares deeply about the southeast and east Dallas community/education.
In the fall of 2011 we started working on the planning for an early college high school with Eastfield. Well, 8 months later and it's very close to a reality. This will be the 4th Early College in Dallas ISD, but the first school within a school model. The first 9th grade class will enter in the fall of 2012.
I am looking for alumni who would be interested in helping promote this initiative. I'm also looking for any alumni who work for local companies that would be willing to help partner with our students for internships, job shadowing, or just being a mentor. The Early College has the potential to leave a lasting mark in Pleasant Grove.
The 60 page application to TEA is submitted on April 10th and the Dallas ISD school board votes on April 12th. I cannot wait to see this massive undertaking get approved.
If you are interested in more information or learning about how you can support the Samuell Early College H.S. please email me shanjones@dallasisd.org

Help! Our former High School needs Alum Support
9-23-11. An article in yesterday's Dallas Morning News caught my eye - MISSING PIECES. It was a story about the gap between North and South Dallas schools and the missing link that makes the North successful and the South not! The missing link - parents.
Current principal Israel Cordero recently hosted a parents night to explain to them his plan to pull Samuell, "a perpetually underachieving school, rated academically unacceptably" out of the mire. NOT ONE PARENT SHOWED UP. ZERO! ZILCH! What happened to our motto, "Together we can make it happen!"
Recall that "It takes a Village to raise a child?" Well, I for one, am willing to step in and be a surrogate parent for the ones at home that can't or won't support their students. This is a challenge for former students to assist me, to help Mr. Cordero and the current teachers and staff to be a positive influence on those students who desire an opportunity but can't see beyond the challenges.
Are you willing to join me. Let's turn the tide of this once great school and help those that desire help. If you're interested in helping achieve this goal, email me
