Alan Dorothy
Class of 1974
Army, 20+ Years
Alan retired as a CW4 (chief warrant officer) in 1997 after 23+ years in the Army. He was a maintenance officer. He traveled to Germany, Italy, and other parts unknown. He also lived in Manhattan, Kansas, Lacey, Washington, and San Antonio, Texas.

Navy, 4 Years
Spent 4 years, 1984-88 as a Machinist Mate. Medically discharged by the Army from the Navy (True Story - the Army controls all military medical in Hawaii). Did Westpac in 1985 on USS Camden (AOE-2). One of the things I learned in the Navy was Firefighting. Now I am an EMT and a Volunteer Firefighter and Adjunct Professor at Southwestern Oregon Community College teaching Firefighting. Life throws us all curveballs when we least expect it!

I was an electricians mate for four years. I spent my first tour in Fallon Nevada.after that I was on the rivers of south vietnam from november of 1967 to december of 1968. after Nam i was in Sasebo Japan for a year. I spent a total of four years in and that was enough for me but proud to have served

Navy, 11 Years
I was in the Seabees. The Seabee is the construction force of the Navy. I was a buider. (carpenter) I have helped construct alot of buildings and verious small projects with my battalion around the world. I was with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5. I have been to Okinawa Japan, Puerto Rico, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Souda Bay Crete Greece, Rota Spain and last but not least Kuwait. I have serverd time in the funeral detail also. I played Taps. I was 8 years active duty and 3 years reserve. I am a disabled vet. I was hurt on the job. Where I broke my foot. Well reather a piece of heavy timber did that....... I have 3 screws permenatly in my left foot. Don't we all hate freak accidents.

Served in Nurnberg, Germany 1971-72. Was trained as an artillery surveyor but spent my tour as the battalion commander's driver. Very good duty in Germany.

Drafted in the summer of 1968. Army Infantry. Served in Vietnam May 1968 thru May 1970. Served in the 82nd Airborne-Big Red One and the 199th Light Infantry. Wounded in action on March 8th 1970. Platoon Sergeant
