Bob was on the fringe cool and in control throughout high school. He was an AAU swimming champion, at ease in the east parking lot, at home in the Wasatch Wilderness, and when I introduced him to Kathy Zollner my best friend was smitten. They married, then divorced as Bob became more involved in mind altering substances. It broke everyone’s heart. He was a guest at the point-of-the-mountain for a moral crime. Upon release, Bob was gone; tamed by the system and angry inside. He was a surrogate son for my mom when I deployed to Berlin and from Berlin, places much more with societies behaving at their destructive worst. During that time, my friend Bob was again afoul of moral codes and harsh laws that were certain to send him back to prison for a long time. While barricading himself in the basement stairwell of the family home, Bob died.
