About Stanton "Stan" R. Gould
February 8, 1950 — September 5, 2025
Stanton R. “Stan” Gould, 75, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. Born on February 8, 1950, in Vero Beach, FL, Stan lived a life marked by adventure, humor and deep devotion to his family and faith. The son of John and Jean Gould, both now deceased, Stan grew up in a lively household surrounded by his siblings, Janie, Susan, Jim, Margie, and Chuck, all of whom survive him today. He built a family of his own with his loving wife and life partner of 35 years, Gerrie, whom he met in Hawaii through their mutual affection for animals, especially his faithful dog, Enu. Together they raised two children, Rachel and Stephen, who were his greatest pride and joy.

Stan’s early passion for flight led him to achieve his pilot’s license at just 16. After graduating from the University of South Florida, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1975, beginning a distinguished 24-year career as a Public Affairs Officer. Stan retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, having traveled with the Marine Corps to many corners of the world. Upon his retirement from the Marine Corps, he took a position as the editor of The Catholic Times Diocesan Newspaper in La Crosse, WI, retiring in October 2015.

Those who knew Stan cherished his easygoing nature and ever-present sense of humor- he always had a joke at the ready. He took immense pride in his Catholic faith and found fulfillment in the simple joys of life. Stan enjoyed photography, writing, carpentry, working on all sorts of engines, baseball, and cooking- his Cajun shrimp was legendary among family and friends.

Stan leaves behind a loving wife, Gerrie, his children, Rachel and Stephen, his siblings, Janie, Susan, Jim, Margie, and Chuck, and countless friends and extended family.
