About Edwin Arnold "Ted" Helseth Jr 20-Aug-50 16-Sep-13 Dr. Edwin Helseth, Jr. (Ted), passed away at Frederick Memorial Hospital on Sept. 16, 2013. Ted was 63 years old. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Deborah Hardin Helseth. He is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Armistead and husband Jack of Vero Beach, FL, and one brother, Frank Helseth and wife Donna of Boone, NC. He will be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews.

Ted was born on August 20, 1950 in Vero Beach, FL. He grew up in Florida, then moved to Boone, NC where he received his BA in 1973 and his MA in Biology Science in 1978 at Appalachian State University. He continued his education at the University of Georgia with a Doctorate in Education in 1984. His career led Ted and Debbie to many cities including Athens, GA, Newport News, VA, Reston, VA, Greensboro, NC, and Frederick, MD. He was currently employed by Gold Belt Raven, LLC as a Senior Software Engineer, currently contracting with Ft. Detrick's Chemical Biological Medical Systems in Frederick, MD.

Ted was an individual of numerous talents, ranging from building houses to repairing automobiles and mechanical equipment. Influenced by Ansel Adams, he also became a skilled nature photographer.

Ted was a member of Fredericktowne Baptist Church. He took an active role in his faith and served his church as a trustee, and a teacher of children's services. A celebration of Ted's life will be held at Fredericktowne Baptist Church, 8645 Biggs Ford Rd. in Walkersville, MD, on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013. The family will receive friends at 3:00 PM; the service will begin at 4:00 PM, with reception to immediately follow. Another memorial service will be held in West Jefferson, NC at a later date.
